It starts with Dante clearing out his father's house after his death. He finds a photograph of his friend Johnno, and the rest is for the most part reverie/5. Dante and Johnno are unlikely childhood friends, growing up in the bustle of steamy, wartime Brisbane. Later, as teenagers, they learn about love and life amidst the city's pubs and public libraries, backyards and brothels, Moreton Bay figs and tennis parties.
Johnno himself is a wonderful character. He is eccentric, misunderstood and probably depressed. He is larger than life. He is full of vitality. Johnno has a strange magnetism about him. This is a slim book of less than pages. However, the book heaves with charm.
